Dear Alan,
My name is Alicia and I am from Spain. I am so moved by your pictures…it´s something I can´t explain. I have recently been a mother. To be honest, I always thought that if my child would have had Down Syndrome, I would had feelt miserable for the rest of my life. But looking at your pictures I now understand that I would be blessed, and that I have been wrong and selfish all my life. Thank you for sharing your beautiful pictures, your blog is a wonderful tribute to your lovely family.
Hi Alicia,
Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your honest feelings with us. It means a lot to hear that we may have helped with changing your perspective about Down Syndrome in a positive way.
Hi Alan. I have heard about your blog in an argentinian newspaper. Me and my wife are Lorenzo`s parents, he had Down`s Syndrome. He is our first baby, and he makes us very happy every day. We want to congratulate and thank you for this blog. This is a good idea to eliminating the barrers for the Down`s Syndrome. Please send our greetings for the little Superman,
Thank you and best wishes from Argentina,
Francisco
Hi Francisco,
Wil says Hi and please send our greetings to Lorenzo as well. You sound like the perfect parents for Lorenzo.
Hello Alan, my name is Barbara and I work in a parenting blog in Televisa Chile called Ser Padres (Being Parents). Some of us are mothers (myself included) and we were very moved by the pictures of you son who can fly. Hence, we are interested in writing a post on your series ‘Wil can fly’ and we would like permission to use the images (with your credit) on our site. We would also add a link to your blog within the post.
Please, let us know if this is ok by you.
Thanks! B
Hi Barbara,
Thank you for asking, that would be fine. Please email me the links to the articles.

Hello Alan and Nikki!
I just found out about you and your beautiful family. I must say I’m totally in love with Will, he’s so adorable.
This project is really amazing so thanks for sharing a part of your life and for letting the world know such an amazing guy as Wil is.
I have a cousin who also has Down Syndrome. She’s very fun, she loves to sing and dance. I’m from Colombia by the way.
Send my greetings to your family and a hug for the lovely Wil!
i would like to start a blog as a father of two daughters, Can you provide me some guidance or direction on where to begin.
Thanks
Charles
blogspot is an easy way to start but you will eventually want to move over the wordpress.org (some coding knowledge needed). Do whatever is easier and just start blogging. Talk about what you love and not what you think people want to hear. Do it because you love it and not because you want money from it. Good luck!
I stumbled across your page from your “Baby Elf of the Shelf” post I found online. You have a beautiful family and your blog is wonderful. Keep up the good work!
Hi, Alan!
I am Clara from China.
Although Twitter and Facebook are pretty much blocked here, thousands of people reposted and liked a post about the story of Will on Weibo. Your family is very inspiring and loving, and extraordinary photos really moved us. I believe Will is an angel and your family give him another pair of wings. We just also love the little Christmas Elf!
So many thanks for positive encouragement! So many wishes to your family! Keep this adventure and it really influences a lot of people.
Thank you so much for sharing. A big Hello from my family to all of you in China!
Your kiddo’s are so lucky to have a Pop like you, and you as well to have them…You make the best of every situations, You are an Awesome Man, thanks for sharing!
Hi Alan, from Norfolk, England.
I’ve been following your blog for a while now and love your pictures of Wil and Rockwell and your beautiful stories about your family life. It’s so lovely to read something so pure and heartfelt on the internet!
I have a request, I don’t see you sharing that much and I expect you get a lot of messages like this so please don’t feel obliged.
A year or two ago I bought an amber necklace for my daughter from a lovely lady who lives in Brighton with her husband and two small children. I followed her business page on Facebook (AmberFairy) and in September this year she announced she was closing for a while due to a family emergency. It didn’t come to light at first what had happened, but a week or two ago an entry popped up on my news feed explaining what had happened. Her husband, aged just 42 and a web designer just like you, had a massive cardiac arrest. When Sabrina found Dan he had been alone with the children and not breathing for approximately 20 minutes.
Sabrina managed to revive Dan and call an ambulance and miraculously he survived the journey to hospital. But those 20 minutes without oxygen caused a devastating anoxic brain injury. Dan can speak, remember certain things and sometimes manages a conversation. But he is paralysed, blind and in a lot of pain constantly. He is going to need a year, maybe two, of intensive physiotherapy as well as countless other specialists in order to allow him to go home. And doctors cannot yet predict how much he will improve, so Sabrina may need to make adjustments to their flat or even move.
The most difficult part is that the specialist rehabilitation centre is in London and Sabrina and Dan live in Brighton. Sabrina doesn’t drive. So at the very least it’s going to cost her a fortune, and she may have to relocate.
Sabrina and Dan have two very young girls at just 2, and 7 months old. Sabrina is doing her best to hold it together for her girls, spend as much time as she can with Dan AND run her own business in order to keep some money coming in. She’s struggling. Her friends have started a fundraising page for her, to cover bills and expenses now (because being on one income and paying a mortgage is hard work), and for future expenses. Sabrina and Dan won’t be able to receive *any* financial support from the government until Dan is home, which could be 2 years time!
Sabrina and Dan need help now. You come across as such a wonderful person, I’m sure you can see what a good cause this is. We, Sabrina’s friends and customers, are reaching out to as many people as we can in an effort to direct traffic towards Sabrina’s Facebook page dedicated to detailing Dan’s recovery, and also their fundraising page. Would you help, please? You know what it is like to have something go viral, to see the effect that has at spinning a story on and on around the globe. We need that sort of effect to get the Masons the help they need.
Please please consider sharing a blog post or a Facebook post about them.
Their fundraising page is http://gogetfunding.com/the-masons-family-fundraiser/
And the Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/groups/988917444500413/
Thank you so very much for taking the time to read this.
Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family.
From Victoria, a big fan of Rock The Elf and Wil, from the UK

Hi Alan!
I just wanted to take a moment to tell you how much my family, friends and I all LOVE your blog up here in sunny Scotland. We only recently discovered this thanks to the cheeky leprechaun kicking about your gaff. Endless smiles and belly chuckles are had when we delve into That Dad’s Blog – a nice, gentle reminder that the big bad world has it’s glimmers of light now and then. Hats off to you – after a decent half hour of stalking your Instagram it’s clear to see you worked hard to get to where you are, you should be chuffed!
A hearty hello to all the family and as we would say up north “Slàinte mhath!” [ slanj’-uh va’ ], meaning good health to you all 🙂
Hi Emma!
Thank you for your kind words. I love telling these stories with my kids. Tell your family and friends in beautiful Scotland “Hi” from my family.
Thank you
Hi! Fantastic site and story. You have the most beautiful family! I would be very curious as to the technique you use to create your amazing photos. I am sure there are many dads like me who would love to be able to create such awesome photos as you have done with Wil. Have you ever thought of creating a tutorial to show how you create the photos? I could even see it being packaged into an ebook that you could sell to benefit the fantastic charities that you are already involved in?
Now I am ready to do my breakfast, later than having my breakfast coming again to
read more news.
Your site and purpose are truly amazing. What a beautiful idea. You have a way of capturing your viewers and making us wish we were your best friends! What a joyful site! Thank you for sharing your talents and joy to this world!
Love your blog! Sent you an email earlier to hello@thatdadblog.com just want to make sure you saw it! Thank you!
Your photos are BEAUTIFUL! I was wondering what kind of camera and lens do you use for your photos? I am in the market and trying to figure out what camera to get next.
Thanks!
Thanks! I use a Nikon D700 camera for most of my photos. I have had that camera since 2007 and it has been the best camera I have owned. For lens I primarily use a 50mm 1.4, 24-70mm 2.8, and a 80-200mm 2.8.
