We got our Madsen bucket bike this Spring and we love it. There are a lot of different reasons why we got a bucket bike (see video below), but the main one was the fact that Wil would be able to ride with us no matter his age. Kids with Down Syndrome don’t typically start riding bikes on their own until they are much older, so having an option for Wil as he got bigger was critical. When we first got our bike I was worried about how Wil would react to riding in a bike, but he loves it so much. We’ve even taken him on longer rides (4-5 miles) and he has never complained. Since Wil and Rock face each other in the bucket they end up jabbering the entire ride and I love it. They usually talk about sports, the weather, or different farm animals we pass on the roads near our house. Sometimes I like to think about how fun our rides will be in the Madsen when Wil is a teenager. I imagine him talking about his feelings and perspective on the world – I can’t wait for those conversations. Recently a harmonica ended up in the bucket on one of our rides and Wil started playing it on the ride – we were dying, it was the cutest thing in the world.
