I never really paid much attention to the Olympics when I was a kid. In fact, the only time I remember noticing it on the TV was when my sisters were going gaga over Greg Louganis back in the 80’s. In 2002, the winter games came to Utah. Nikki and I were lucky enough to win some tickets to a couple events and I really enjoyed the energy and excitement around the games. That enormous focus of love for country really drew me in.
As my family grew over the years, I had good intentions of extending that excitement and love for the games to them, but always managed to get too caught up in our busy agendas. This year I want to make it happen, so we’ve decided to kick things off by helping Rockwell tryout for as many Olympic events as possible before and during the games. We’ve been looking at all of the events (I had no idea that Badminton was an Olympic sport!) and Im going to have the kids decide each of the events he participates in. We will post all of photos here during the games so be sure to check back from time to time.
If there is an Olympic event you would like to see Rockwell try out for be sure to leave a comment. Thanks for dropping in. Hope you enjoy the games!
Day 1: I told him that only females performed on the balance beam. He told me, “your mom is a balance beam”. That doesn’t even make sense.
Day 2: BAM! Lifting quadruple his weight tonight. We call him Rock for a reason ???
Day 3: Wil has been having Rockwell use a shoe box for his plyometric training. It has really payed off, He just set a new Long Jump record for a 30″ person (4′ 3″).
Day 4: A true athlete digs deep for his team, even if it means getting a little sand in the diaper.
Day 5: He held that pose for five seconds but had to stop because his diaper was cutting off the circulation to his legs.
Day 6:One of our favorite events durning the Olympics is the rings. Rockwell performed the Iron Cross tonight and told me the secret to that move is to curl your toes and squeeze your butt cheeks. I knew it was easier than it looked.
Day 7: I started laughing when I saw how big his boxing gloves were, and then he chipped my tooth.
Since a lot of you have been asking about the gear I use to get my photos, Ive listed it below:
