We’re teaming up with Alamo Rent A Car!
As Nikki and I watch the first snow of the season blanket the ground outside, we are getting even more excited about some of our winter travel plans. Traveling with six kids definitely has its challenges, but Nikki and I decided early in our marriage that having a big family would never keep us from exploring. We both grew up in big families and found our love for traveling in our youth. Nikki’s dad worked for an airline and her family traveled across the country through the various opportunities her dad’s job provided. I found my passion for traveling during the random road trips my parents would take across Utah. It’s funny how our parents’ different traveling styles had such a big influence on us. To this day, Nikki is a very organized and meticulous traveler who prefers to fly like her parents, while I enjoy random, unplanned, last-minute road trips like my parents. We do a good job of balancing each other out, but it will be fun to see what travel style each of our kids adopts after they move out.
With the new year approaching, I wanted to suggest something that might help your family have more meaningful family vacations. Three years ago, Nikki and I decided to start setting travel goals for each year and it has been great. In 2016, our goal was to visit at least two of the Utah national parks we have always wanted to experience. In 2017, we decided to take our kids on their very first plane ride as we traveled up to Oregon. And this year we were blessed to take our kids to Florida and the Big Apple for the first time. Try to set your travel goals as a family so that everyone has something to look forward to for the year. Each year as we talk about different travel locations with our kids it’s fun to see their different interests evolve as they get older. We are excited to start planning our travel goals for this next year!
We are also excited to announce that we have recently partnered with Alamo Rent A Car to be one of their Chief Travel Guides in 2019! In the coming months we will be sharing some of our travel stories and advice on Alamo’s travel blog, the Scenic Route. I’m honored to be able to contribute to this great travel resource and share our passion for traveling. I’m hoping that our stories will help inspire more families to get out and travel this next year.
