I’m a sucker for a good thunderstorm, even if it means standing alone on a dark scary road at one in the morning. Last night was no exception. I had just finished a bowl of kid cereal before bed (because why not) and then I saw it, a flash of light just out the kitchen window. I had found this country road near my house a couple weeks previous that got me above the housetops and gave me a great view of the valley. The only bad part about this spot was the fact that in between lightning flashes, it was so dark that I felt like I was on a set for a zombie movie. There seemed to be a storm in every direction. I managed to get this shot (below) looking east as a previous storm made its way into Wyoming. The long exposure and lightning flashes from the storm behind me managed to give me enough light to fill the shot. The storm never did go directly overhead, but southern Idaho managed to get pounded pretty hard.
