The elf did not leave Christmas morning. I was waiting to post this, hoping something would change overnight. What is the protocol for returning these elves back to Santa? Christmas morning I went into the front room to turn on the tree lights and there he was, covering his eyes as if I couldn’t see him. It wasn’t until I poked him twice before I realized I wasn’t dreaming. He tried to convince me that elves always stay on Christmas morning to watch kids open presents. After calling our neighbors I learned that this was not the case, their elves had returned with Santa. We tried calling Santa and his answering machine told us he would be unavailable for the next two months while he was on vacation. TWO MONTHS!
I had a suspicion that one of the kids had something to do with his elusiveness from Santa and quickly learned that Ali was the mastermind. Apparently, she had concealed him with her stuffed animals on Christmas Eve and Santa failed to notice him. Or did he? Maybe Santa is punishing me for the year I ate his cookies. Maybe Santa only picked up the toy elves because he wasn’t used to picking up real ones. Whatever the reason we are stuck with the elf for a little while longer. I need to try and make the best of this situation.
I will keep you all posted when we learn more. If anyone has any ideas on how to get the elf back please leave a comment below.

Thank you for sharing your family with us. I only just came across your YouTube channel and blog this evening. A bit too late for the Elf on the Shelf season, but I thoroughly enjoyed them!
I empathize with your feelings of fear for Wil’s future when he was born. My girlfriend and her husband had a precious little girl born 4 years ago with DS. They too had feelings of worry and concern on what Elizabeth’s future held and what it would mean for their family and other children. I was blessed to look after Elizabeth a few days a week from the time she was 8 weeks old. We grew very close – she holds a special place in my heart and always will. Sadly, Elizabeth had a heart defect when she was born and after fighting back from 3 open heart surgeries by the time she was 15 months old, we all lost her shortly before her second birthday.
She taught me more in her short life about love, happiness and just pure joy that anything else ever has. She had the same smile as Wil’s – that smile that starts at their toes and makes every fibre of their being’s sparkle. I am truly blessed to have had Elizabeth in my life and pray every night that the Lord continues to love upon my special baby angel.
Thank you for sharing your family with us. You, your lovely wife and your wonderful children have put a smile on my face. Happy New Year to you. Keep smiling (from your toes) and thanks again for sharing!
Sincerely,
Heather

I absolutely love seeing your posts! Will is amazing & I’m always so touched seeing videos & pics of him! You are an amazing Dad. My son is 5 years old, has ADHD, sensory issues & may be in the autism spectrum & his dad hasn’t ever wanted anything to do with him since I was 2 mths pregnant when he hit me! Single Mom, but I know I am Blessed. We are both Blessed with Special needs children!! #trueinspiration
