October is one of my favorite months. I love the colors, the weather, the smells and the harvest. We work so hard on our garden during the summer and the kids complain the entire time, but when we harvest in the fall they always comment about how much they love eating from the garden. As a kid, I always complained about having to work in the garden, but now I love to garden because it reminds me of that special time with my family in the garden. I hope my kids eventually get that same love for gardening.
At the end of every harvest, we like to celebrate all of our hard work in the garden by having a Halloweenie Roast. What is a Halloweenie Roast you might ask? Well, since our pumpkins are the last vegetable to be taken from our garden, we usually wait until the week before Halloween to pick them. Each of our kids picks their pumpkin from the garden (we rotate who gets to pick first every year), and then we carve them outside while our fire pit gets warmed up for roasting hot dogs (this is where the weenie part plays in). This year we let Wil and Rockwell pick the guts from their pumpkins. Rocko thought it was hilarious but Wil wanted nothing to do with the guts. We usually only carve one pumpkin per kid but this year the kids wanted to carve almost all of them. We added some outdoor string lights near the table and kept on chugging cider and carving pumpkins well after sunset. And boy what a sunset it was.

I love fall also and these photos of your tradition. It is a great tradition. Our children are grown and have children of their own. Most of them live out of state. I remember the fun costumes they wore on halloween. One year when my oldest four were small, the youngest was 1 the others were 3, 4 and 5 I sewed fun clown like pajamas for them. They turned out cute. I also dressed up as a clown. That was most memorable. Now I love being home handing out treats. I love decorating for fall inside and outside.
