and opinions are my own.
It’s hard to believe that Gracie, our first child, was born 18 years ago! We were fortunate to adopt Gracie after a long five-year battle with PCOS. It took only four months after being approved by our adoption agency before we were blessed to be chosen by a birth mom. It was a huge emotional relief to finally start planning everything we needed for our first child.
I remember how excited Nikki was for her first baby shower. She grew up in a big family and had a lot of experience caring for babies which made it easy for her to decide which products she wanted. The year was 2002 and the internet was still in its infancy so we didn’t have the luxury of sharing gift idea links with our family and friends attending the baby shower. Nikki’s mom was in charge of her baby shower and I remember Nikki sending subtle hints to her about what products she wanted. Unfortunately, Nikki’s plan to secure the things she wanted didn’t quite work the way she had hoped and we ended up returning a lot of clothes and products that we didn’t want. Baby registry before the internet was a huge nightmare. As our family continued to grow, more and more retailers started offering baby registries online and it became a little easier. Nikki and I have learned a lot over the course of having six kids. Below are just a few of our tips for creating the perfect baby registry.
- Don’t feel like you just need to add small-ticket items to your registry. Some people prefer group gifting because it’s easier for them and it’s a good way to help you get those needed bigger gifts.
- Be informed – read a lot of reviews and ask your friends on social media about products they prefer. You can see all of the baby products Nikki and I recommend by clicking here.
- Don’t pick a store just because it’s trendy – find a store that offers the most products so that people have a larger variety of items to choose from.
- Don’t forget to think about seasonal items like beanies, snowsuits, and stuff for outside.
- Diapers are always a good item to add – especially if the baby registry offers a diaper fund program.
Amazon Baby Registry
This week Nikki and I have been learning more about Amazon Baby Registry and we both mentioned how much we wished we had known about it when we were expecting. One of the main advantages of creating your registry on Amazon is the opportunity to pick from millions of different baby products all on one site. If you happen to find a product that is not on their site you can still add it to your baby registry using the Universal Registry browser plug-in. When you sign up to have your baby registry on Amazon you get a 10% completion discount (15% for Prime members) on items left on your registry plus you have a full 365 days to return most of the items from your registry. Amazon gives you the option of making your registry public which allows people to find your page by searching your name or you can keep it private with only a select group who have your shared link.
These are just a few of the benefits of using Amazon Baby Registry but if you or someone you know is expecting, you can learn more by visiting their landing page. If you sign up before Nov 30th you will also be able to save up to 25% on select baby products on Amazon’s “Best of Baby Registry” page.
